Here is what we've learned so far:
*Gravy and sweet tea are served with almost everything
*It's not uncommon to be called "Sweetie, honey, sweet pea, or sugar" over the drive thru speaker
*Frontage roads are lifesavers
*Texas loves Texas
*Humidity staves away wrinkly skin
*Where a deer sign is may actually have deer nearby
*The roads run out without warning
*Natural hair and humidity is no fun
*Netflix account + joblessness=a terrible combination
*Mom and Pop shops will not serve you on Sunday. "We in church, why aren't you?"
*I'm not using the word 'ya'll' enough
And here's where we've been so far:
Riverwalk a few times
Woodlawn Lake
Japanese tea garden
Bandera Flea Market
North Star Mall
Hardberger Park
Gruene, Texas
Walker Ranch Park
La Cantera
Israel Houghton/Tasha Cobbs concert
McNay Art Museum
Orange Leaf frozen yogurt is a chill spot
In another language, Bill Miller BBQ restaurant means stomach ache
Jim's Cafe gets you in and out in a hurry
Burger Fi was delicious--but for the price I could have made 3x as many burgers that tasted half as good
Wiseguys Eatery meal lasts days....and days....and days
And the Gristmill serves pretty close to the best ribs I've ever had.
As our first month here comes to a close, I'm happy to announce that I have accepted a job as a nurse within a memory care unit. God is good!
Now that we're all caught up please keep us in prayer and stay tuned for our adventures to come.
I'm curious what your thoughts are on Tex-mex food? Being from Tucson then California I still can't grasp the whole Tex-mex thing and I've been here in TX 11 years! I miss Sonoran hot dogs and Sonoran style food. :(
ReplyDeleteI agree with you!! Not a fan of Tex Mex at all. When I was here in June I went to a restaurant called Nichas. I enjoyed it very much. Since moving here though I've yet to find THE favorite place. Next week I'm hoping to go to The Block SA and try some of the food trucks. Finger crossed.
