Ann Whataburger asked a very thought provoking
question. “Why won’t you let anyone
bless you?” The question came about when
she offered to treat Naysia and I to a night out…my response, as always, was how
we could share the cost, etc etc. Her
question stopped me in my tracks. This
has been brought up in the past. It is
unfair for me to not allow others to follow the prompting that God has put on
their hearts.
She generously purchased the tickets for the last show of
the night. We picked her up after 10pm,
spent a year’s wages on food and drinks, then settled into our comfy seats at
the Regal Huebner Oaks Stadium. I’m a
longtime fan of M. Night Shyamalan. Naysia
and Ann are fond of James McAvoy.
Although “Split” held
our attention, Ann was the star of the show with her expressive responses
during the more suspenseful scenes.
The movie ended about 130am.
We lovingly teased Ann all the way back to her place. As we headed home, fog began to settle in and
Naysia had this bright idea that we should stop at a parking garage and capture
some memories. We made our way to an
Emergency Room parking lot where she was the model, I was the photographer and
we both were a mess. Uncontrollable
laughter ensued and a few good pictures were taken.

I knew I was fond of Judith from our first conversation—and was
elated when I learned that her birthday is the day after mine! We love to spend time together and were
determined to have a date and celebrate.
Knowing that we both had plans with family and loved ones on
or around our birthday, we agreed to meet for a late dinner at Good Time
Charlie’s. Located on Broadway and
Mulberry, it was the perfect place for girl talk and comfort food.
Never at a loss for words, the conversation we shared was a
mixture of testimony of God’s goodness, hopes for the future, disappointing
experiences of the past and the joy of new friendships. We shared a basket of ‘Nuts, Bolts and Rings’
aka fried zucchini, mushrooms, & onion rings, served with cream gravy and
ranch dressing. For my entrée, I (very
much) enjoyed a smoked turkey & swiss on rye bread with a side of mashed
potatoes. Yes, mashed potatoes. Our server was excellent, attentive and she met
our numerous requests for refills, ranch, and root beer floats.
We nearly shut the place down, leaving just before the
midnight closure.
Thank you Attie and Judith! What a grand way to kick off my
birthday week!
